Grilled Arctic Char

Sep 15, 2011

One of my favorite fish is Arctic Char. This fish has beautiful orange colored flesh like salmon, small tender flakes like trout, and a unique flavor which is somewhere between salmon and trout. Here is one of many good recipes for this fish. Take 2 pounds of Arctic Char fillets and season lightly with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Add 1 tablespoon of fresh minced lemon zest and 1 tablespoon fresh minced orange zest. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon sugar in the raw. Gently rub his entire mixture onto both sides of the fish fillets.

Lightly season your barbecue grill with oil. Lightly spray the Arctic Char fillets with Pam or other oil spray. Place on the grill. Now add some apple woodchips or other favorite wood smoking chips to the grill. When the fish is cooked about one third of the way gently turn it over and continue cooking on the other side. . Add more smoking chips if required. Cook to about 130° and then remove it from the grill and serve.

There are a lot of espresso machines out there to choose from. What do you really need to look for in an espresso machine? Well, to get an espresso machine that you can use on a daily basis, you need to buy a quality name brand machine. That means selecting brands such as Bernina and DeLonghi machines. With a quality machine, you don’t have to worry about the pump or the heater going out from daily use. With the cheaper models that may be an issue.

The DeLonghi EC155 is a good model, because it is pump driven and can produce about 15 bars of pressure. This is really the right amount of pressure to get a good amount of coffee extracted from the porta filter while brewing. This is important to make a good tasting coffee. The DeLonghi EC155 also has two separate heaters to keep your milk and your espresso hot during the brewing process.

Soul Food in Culture

Oct 25, 2010

The term, “Soul Food” was born more than 50 decades ago, during the period around the 1950s and 1960s. It arose out of the Civil Rights movement and become a symbol of unity for the African American population in America, as well as the greater African diaspora worldwide. However, soul food has always existed, even before it was given any name. It has always been a strong part of the heritage of the African American community, particularly in the Deep South.

When people mention soul food, they often mean “food for the soul,” or something that uplifts the emotions and outlook of the person. Religious people might call reading the Bible as food for the soul. Others might call doing charitable deeds as soul food, too. Regardless of this figurative use, soul food is now a universal term.

Soul food, whether it is really the cuisine or the figurative meaning, always connotes a positive meaning. As in something that encourages the spirit of the person, and brings people closer together. This is the enduring charm of soul food.

Jun 30, 2010

You might like the taste of something at the start of your hike and grow fed up with it by the end. Freeze dried meals are expensive. Learning good alternatives could pay for a lot of your adventure. It’s really expensive to mail heavy packages to each resupply point. With the number you pay for priority mail, you could buy a lot of your food. That’s one more reason to experiment a lot with food before your hike. Become a specialist of what you could buy even in small and medium-size supermarkets. Read much more on what other hikers have done. You might carry a little much more weight, but you can leave each resupply point with precisely what you’ve chosen during the time, and not be locked into what you planned months ago. You require to be realistic. You might be in that group that does not hike the full length from the trail.
